Goldman predicts 300 million jobs will be affected by AI. People worry that tools like ChatGPT will take away their jobs. But as we’ve mentioned earlier, AI will give way to new jobs. Hints of that are already starting to emerge as companies are hiring “prompt engineers” for healthy six figure salaries.
Bloomberg reported that Prompt Engineers are being offered up to $335,000. These are essentially people who are really good at interfacing and prompting GPT like systems to output desired results. Irrespective of educational backgrounds Prompt Engineering is emerging as a field where companies are seeking expertise.
Not too dissimilar from “Software Engineering” where people interface with code to output desired results, companies are realising that to effectively capture the value of Generative AI systems they need to start establishing their own prompt engineering practices.
We could see in the not too distant future academic programs, certifications and up-skilling programs geared towards training prompt engineers much like how software engineering took off.

This is big news for the publishing industry. Microsoft announced that they have begun to incorporate ads into Bing chat’s outputs. These ads will appear as citations in chat sessions that users have with Bing. Microsoft mentioned that with this new form of advertising it is also reworking on how it can best share ad revenue with publishers.
This is an important step forward for publishers. LLMs are not built for citations, most applications simply repurpose the content of publishers without proper attribution and citations. ChatGPT (which has over a 100 million users) does not cite content that it pulls and uses for its output.
Bing’s share of search revenue is tiny. But Microsoft CFO Amy Hood believes that for every 1% gain Bing can make in the market share, the company can expect to bring in $2 billion in revenue.
