Elon Musk is the most ambitious person on this planet. He's built rockets, electric cars and now he's potentially building AGI. Sam Altman too has ambitions of his own as he pays a visit to the Japanese prime minister. Oh and Autonomous GPTs might just be the next big thing.

Remember when there were reports about Elon potentially starting an OpenAI ? Well it seems like he’s following through with that as Twitter recently bought 100,000 GPUs. Twitter has also actively recruited Deepmind engineers to help lead the project.

Elon also reportedly signed the Pause AI letter and has expressed concerns with OpenAI’s approach to AGI. Twitter has pulled access to its data API which OpenAI was using to train its GPT models. Furthermore, Elon open sourced Twitter’s code including its recommendation algorithm.

We don’t quite know the AI project that Elon is pursuing at Twitter. But the amount of data that Twitter has can be used to go down many different paths leveraging generative AI.

We’ll have our eyes peeled for this one. It’s hard to bet against Elon.

According to OpenAI co-founder Andrej Karpathy, “AutoGPT is the next frontier of prompt engineering”.

AutoGPT is like giving GPT models a memory and agency to execute on tasks. These two factors allow an AI agent to autonomously come up with a plan and execute on it when given a specific task to execute. Among other things it can browse the web and use new data to revise its plan and strategy until the task that it's given is completed.

It can do all sorts of things including analysing the market and coming up with trading strategies, autonomously monitor customer service, marketing and financial tasks and other tasks that would otherwise constantly require human updates.

It’s also built on top of off the shelf technologies -

  1. Architecture: GPT-4 and GPT-3.5 via API.

  2. Autonomous Iterations : Execute self critical review, build on previous work and including prompt history (techniques already being used by OpenAI and Anthropic)

  3. Memory Management - Integration with vector databases for long term memory storage allowing for context preservation leading to improved decision making.

  4. Multi functionality - File manipulation, web browsing, data retrieval. All tasks possible possible by existing AI bots but being integrated into a single autonomous UI for the first time.

While Italy has banned ChatGPT, Germany is monitoring it closely and the US is contemplating on how to regulate AI, Japan is seriously considering integrating the technology with government services and having a nation-wide adoption strategy.

If it goes through, this will be a pivotal endorsement for OpenAI and help it develop leverage with other governments. Sam Altman has personally travelled to Japan to make the deal happen and has also hinted that OpenAI is looking at opening an office in Japan.

“We hope to ... build something great for Japanese people, make the models better for Japanese language and Japanese culture,” said Altman
