Microsoft brings the latest GPT updates to Bing

Plus Kamala Harris hosts AI execs at the White House and Biden drops by

We’re wrapping up the week with a big announcement from Bing along with a visit to the White House from the top AI executives in tech.

OpenAI has a close relationship with Microsoft. When Open AI launches something, it’s almost a given that Microsoft probably has something in the pipeline similar to them.

Microsoft has added a large set of updates to Bing and Edge search, here’s what they launched -

Open Preview - Bing no longer has a waitlist, anyone with a Microsoft account can use it.

Visual Answers - Bing will now incorporate visual answers including graphs, tables and images in bing chat. Bing image creator will also now be available in more than 100 languages. Visual search in chat is also in the works so that you can upload images as search queries.

Productivity Gains - Chat history to pick up where you left your last conversation, better screen utilisation by automatically adjusting where the sidebar should be placed, improved summarisation capabilities for long documents and soon adding context from previous chat history for more relevant answers.

Plugins - The much raved about ChatGPT plugins are coming to Bing as well. Developers will soon be able build custom plugins that will help users augment the capabilities of Bing Search within specific apps and use cases.

Microsoft’s relationship with Open AI has been extremely beneficial. One could say a majority of AI research at Microsoft is outsourced to Open AI, but now as OpenAI has began to productise its technologies it will be interesting to see how the two companies co-develop their products together.

Top AI executives at Google, Microsoft , Open AI and Anthropic among others are meeting with the US vice president to discuss AI safety, ethics and policy as a deeper portion of the economy is exposed to AI.

There’s going to be a lot of these meetings around the world with Governments in the coming months as policy makers make sense of how AI needs to be responsibly deployed for its citizens.
